The Bears took a 2-1 series lead over Nebraska with a very encouraging 4-0 win yesterday. Kyle Porter extended himself out to four innings in his 2nd appearance since returning from an early season injury, and five relievers backed him up with shut out innings. In all only 6 Cornhuskers reached base during the entire game in a dominating staff performance.
The pitchers didn't require much offense, and Darrell Matthews and Chadd Krist combined to do enough. Both finished with three hits and drove in three of the four Cal runs. Krist had one of Cal's four doubles during a day when extra bases were hard to come by.
Cal could pick up a huge series win with a victory today. It will be Michael Theofanopoulos on the mound trying to lead the Bears towards that goal. He'll likely be given a long rope after Cal used 5 members of the bullpen in yesterday's win, but Theofanopoulos has been averaging just short of 6 innings/start and closer Logan Scott will probably be available for multiple innings if necessary. Go Bears!
