The Baseball Bears are back in action after an 11 inning victory to open their four game set against Nebraska. The Bears jumped out to a 7-0 lead after just three innings but then allowed Nebraska to come all the way back and tie the game 8-8 before recovering just in time for the 11-8 win. Cal's offense was a balanced attack as every single regular got at least one hit (including Devon Rodriguez as a DH in his first game back from an injury that has kept him out of every game to start the season).
Justin Jones pitched well before faltering, allowing 4 runs in the 5th inning before giving way to the bullpen. Joey Donofrio pitched two clean innings, but true freshman Keaton Siomkin got a little roughed up, and a 9th inning error played a major role in allowing two unearned runs that tied the game up.
But Cal closer Logan Scott brushed off a tough 9th inning to shut down Nebraska in the 10th and 11th, and Cal's hitters rewarded him with a 3 run 11th highlighted by Chris Paul's pinch hit, 2 RBI single. Victory Bears!
Today it will be Matt Flemer (1.23 ERA in 22 innings) on the mound facing sophomore righty John Keller (3.62 ERA in 14 starts last year). Go Bears!
