Verbal commits are marked w/ (Cal)

CGB Recruiting Thread | Golden Recruiting Board

The Bears have one of the smallest classes in the country and though they have four very good players in it... there's just four players. They have a possible freshman starter in quarterback Zach Kline and perhaps this summer's best wide receiver Bryce Treggs but there's been little movement in adding to them. The Bears are in on a lot of prospects and defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi is one of the better recruiters out there but things need to pick up in Berkeley [1].

  • Darius Hamilton, DE Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ) is enjoying the recruiting process and calling off his verbal commitment plans by October. Top 5 for Hamilton remains Rutgers, Cal, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee:
Whichever school Hamilton chooses, they will have to fit the guidelines he has laid out for his ideal destination.

"Definitely a place with good academics; I want to study communications in college because I feel if I can't play football, I still want to be able to talk about it. It's something I love," he said. "I want a place where I have a chance to play. I'm not asking for a spot as soon as I get there, just a chance to show you what I can do because I feel like I can make the most of my opportunity. I also want a great atmosphere: I want to be around guys I can see myself around every day along with the coaches [2]."
  • Byron Marshall, RB Valley Christian (San Jose, CA) offered by USC [3]. Marshall has Arizona State, Cal, Notre Dame, Oregon, USC, Washington as his top 6 [4].

"To be honest, I never saw it coming because they were barely recruiting me," he said. "Coach [Clay] Helton is the one recruiting me and I talked to him first and then he put coach [Lane] Kiffin on the phone and he told me they were offering a scholarship [$5]."

  • Ishmael Adams, CB Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, CA) visited unofficially during Cal's Fall camp [Photo w/ Bryce Treggs]:

"It was a great trip," Adams said. "We did a little of everything there. I got to watch the team practice, meet with the coaches, tour the campus and see the new facilities. Cal really stands out right now and I'm getting closer to a decision but I'm not going to announce anything until the Army All-American game in January [$6]."

  • Jordan Payton, WR Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, CA) has Cal and Michigan as his top 2 [7].

Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian four-star wide receiver Jordan Payton, Rivals.com’s No. 96 overall prospect and a one-time USC commitment, has scheduled his Michigan official visit for the weekend of Sept. 10, to coincide with the first night game at Michigan Stadium. The 6-2, 199-pound Payton currently lists the Wolverines as the top school on his interest list.

"They said they need a receiver to come in and play early, so that’s what they are recruiting me for," Payton said [8].

  • Kyle Murphy, OT San Clemente (San Clemente, CA) has Florida on the radar for an official visit [9]. USC also seemed to stand out w/ Murphy after his visit:

"It was great, I really enjoyed myself there," Murphy said. "I went with one of my coaches and a few of my teammates but I still got to spend some good one-on-one time with a lot of the SC coaches. They pulled me aside at different times to talk about the program and how I would fit in, things like that [$10]."

  • KeiVarae Russell, RB Mariner (Everett, WA) is trying to win Gatorade Player of the Year after being the little guy his freshman year [11]. Russell was offered by USC [12]:

"USC just offered me," an excited Russell said. "This is a huge offer and USC is one of those schools that I've always had a high interest in. I wear No. 5 because of Reggie Bush and I loved those USC teams a few years ago that were the best in college football. I was a big fan actually and it's a dream to get an offer from them. "If I chose USC, they would be getting off probation right when I got there and they're definitely high on my list. SC just has that swagger to them and their style of play really fits my play and running style. I'm the type of back they usually love to have and that private school education would be cool to have as well [$13]."

  • Zach Kline, QB (Cal) San Ramon Valley (Danville, CA) displayed his strong arm at The Opening [14]:

  • Bryce Treggs, WR (Cal) St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) showing off his capable route-running at The Opening [15]

  • Eddie Goldman, DT Friendship Academy (Washington, DC) plans to cut down to 6-7 schools in about a week or so then take his official visits [16]. Goldman will be featured August 28 11AM EDT on ESPNU against Taft of Cincinnati, OH [17].
  • Aziz Shittu, DT Buhach (Atwater, CA) is considering an official visit to Texas A&M [18].
  • Cedric Dozier, ATH, Zach Banner, OL Lakes (Lakewood, WA) seleted to preseason All-Washington State team [19]. Banner has USC as one of his final 5:

"That's the one school I know for sure that will make it in there," Banner said. "My visit last week was incredible and I really had a good time. It's such a nice place and I had to chance to meet a lot of people. I met up with the entire football staff and also talked with the basketball coaches and they said I could for sure play both sports so that was good to hear [$20]."

  • DeForest Bruckner, DE, Luke Kaumatule, DE Punahou (Honolulu, HI) both offered by Arizona State [21].
  • Shaq Thompson, ATH Grant Union (Sacramento, CA), Kyle Murphy, OT San Clemente (San Clemente, CA), Josh Garnett, OL Pullyaup (Pullyaup, WA), Bryce Treggs, WR St John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) are only some of the noteable Golden Recruits on Scout.com's West 150 [22].
  • Leonte Carroo, WR Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, NJ) verbally committed to Rutgers [23].
