  • Hardy Nickerson Jr., LB (Cal) Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, CA) quotables:

At 6-feet, 220 pounds, Nickerson picked Cal over Nebraska, Colorado and Washington State. His father, Hardy, starred for the Bears in the mid-1980s before a standout 16-year NFL career.

"He really let me make my own decision," Nickerson Jr. said. "I really appreciated that [1]."

"I really like Cal because they're well-rounded, with their great academics and campus life," said Nickerson, Jr. "I also really like all the change that's happening there, with the new coaches, new facilities and new stadium. It just seems like there's a new excitement coming to Cal football and I want to be a part of it [2]."

"I was really excited to be a part of the Bear family, and I was just totally comfortable being there and just wanted to make it official," Nickerson, Jr., says. "My dad, it was more, 'You've done this by yourself. My name is not your name. You make your name.' He was just excited for me, proud of me and he wasn't pushing me to make a commitment or anything. He just wanted me to take my time, really evaluate everything [3]."
