Cal Baseball vs. Baylor: Regional Final Gamethread

Cal Baseball has again been delayed by rain/lightning in Houston.  The tarp has been removed and the field is being prepared.  According to Baylor Baseball twitter, a new start time of 6:14 PST has been announced.

The team that refuses to die will try to make program history today.  One more win and the Bears will advance to their first super-regional in Cal history, with a very real chance at their first College World Series appearance since 1992.  Standing in their way will once again be the Baylor Bears.

Baylor has already announced that Jon Ringenberg will be starting today's game.  Ringenberg has an ERA of just 2.25, but he's only thrown 28 innings this year and is essentially a long reliever.  He frequently started Baylor's midweek games, and in my non-exhaustive search of Baylor gamelogs, never pitched beyond the 4th inning.  Baylor will likely be approaching today's game as a bullpen game.

I haven't heard who Cal will send to start the game. Erik Johnson and Kevin Miller have both pitched, but neither threw full games by their usual standards and both could be available.  Rubber-armed lefty Justin Jones will likely tell Coach Esquer that he's ready to go.  Matt Flemer has 'only' thrown 3.1 innings and will likely take the mound at some point tonight.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that, as is often the case in a regional final, it's all hands on deck.  Go Bears!
