NCAA Division I Baseball championship bracket
For the first time since the NCAA Regional / Super Regional format was introduced in 1999, the Cal baseball team finds itself playing on Super Regional weekend. With its improbable four-run 9th inning rally to beat Baylor in the Houston Regional championship game, Cal not only reached a Super Regional for the first time, but has managed to grab the super regional host gig. The never-say-die Bears will face the upstart Dallas Baptist University Patriots at the University of Santa Clara's Schott Stadium.
Cal sophomore lefthander Justin Jones (8-6, 3.09 ERA), who pitched brilliantly in relief in the Bears' 10-6 win over Alcorn State in the Houston Regional, is expected to get the nod as the Game 1 starting pitcher. Dallas Baptist is expected to counter with senior righty Brandon Williamson (10-3, 3.98 ERA).
