Rain in Tucson?!? The city only averages .33 inches of rain each April, so they must have gotten all of it yesterday to force a doubleheader early this morning. I'm not writing a whole new preview for the first game when a perfectly good one exists already:
TonightThis morning Justin Jones will look to halt the losing streak and build on the momentum from his dominating performance against USC last Saturday. He'll face Kyle Simon, who sports a 2.81 ERA but has not fared well in his last two starts against Pac-10 opponents. The Beavers tagged him for 5 runs in 5 2/3 innings, while Arizona St. managed 4 in 6 1/3. Hopefully Cal's hitters can be at least as successful.
A quick preview for game 2 after the jump. Go Bears!
The second half of today's double header will see Dixon Anderson (3-1, 2.92) vs. Tyler Hale (3-2, 4.12). Both pitchers will be looking for stronger performances than their previous trips to the mound. Anderson wasn't able to get through the 5th inning in an uncharacteristically short start. But it was miles better than Hale, who gave up 10 hits and 7 runs while only retiring 8 batters. Both coaches will probably be hoping their starters in either game 1 or game 2 (or both) will be able to pitch deep to avoid having to force their bullpens to pick up multiple innings twice in one day.
