Not a pretty game by any means; Cal's offensive production looked like it was around a point per possession, shooting only 38% from the field. But they were 41% from downtown and rocked the glass, and other than the big three of Trent Lockett, Ty Abbott and Rihards Kuksiks, held Arizona State's offense down with their man/matchup zone defense.
- Jorge Gutierrez came up big in Tempe again. 21 points on 11 shots, 7 free throws, three steals. He also had some nice Paul Pierce-like pumpfakes to draw fouls and get to the line.
- Markhuri Sanders-Frison and Harper Kamp did their work inside, pounding the offensive glass. 11 offensive rebounds from our bigs, 18 in all from the entire team--Cal outrebounded ASU 43-27.
- Allen Crabbe is now on third 17 point game in four times, nailing four threes.
- Cal needs to work on holding onto the ball after rebounds. Lots of balls bouncing off the hands of our guys after they seem to have picked it up. We dominated the boards, but it seemed like there were a lot of empty possessions.
Nice to get on the board in the Pac-10. Time for the boys to come home and show us what the new-look Bears can do in Haas Pavilion.
