US Army All-American Recruits

  • Viliami Moala, DT Grant Union (Sacramento, CA) plans to announce his verbal commitment this Saturday [1][2]. Moala's ability to control the running game in practice is getting noticed [3]. He was selected to MaxPreps Air Force All-American Team [4]. NorCalPreps.com named Moala Defensive Player of the Year [5]. Rivals has Moala as Honorable Mention All-American at DT [6]. Oregon State is committed to go after the Grant foursome [7].

"Even if I commit, it's a verbal commitment," Moala told Martinez [Gerard, Rivals]. "I will announce where I'm strongly considering, but if anything changes, I still have signing day. It's not over until I sign."

Moala said his top five in order are Cal, Oregon State, Oregon, Washington and USC [8].

  • Colt Lyerla, ATH Hillsboro (Hillsboro, OR) will play Tight End when he's not on defense as a linebacker [9]. Lyerla will be announcing at the USAAB among his top 3 of USC, Oregon, Cal [10].

In the 3-4, I'll play that monster outside linebacker position, which will allow me to showcase my athleticism off the edge more.

Lyerla was named to The Oregonian's Class 6A All-State Team as a running back [11]. Rivals selected Lyerla to its All-American Second Team at LB [12]. OregonPreps/Rivals names Lyerla to its All-State First Team at Split Back and Linebacker [13].
  • Brennan Scarlett, DE Central Catholic (Portland, OR) won't be playing at San Antonio due to his broken collarbone. Scarlett could decide as soon as the week after USAAB [14]. Cal may have a slight edge but Stanford's Jim Harbaugh & Notre Dame's Brian Kelly are getting in-home visits [15].
  • Jason Gibson, OLB (Cal) Serra (Gardena, CA) will line up at defensive end for the West squad [16].
  • Stefan McClure, CB Vista (Vista, CA) won San Diego Hall of Champions' Silver Pigskin Award [17][18][19] in addition of being named Defensive Player of the Year [20][21]. Oregon State continues to go after McClure [22]. He has already dropped Washington [23]. Therefore, Cal, UCLA, Oregon State round out McClure's top 3.
  • James Sample, S Grant (Sacramento, CA) may be going his separate ways from teammate Viliami Moala for college [24]. Sample may announce during the USAAB [25].
  • Avery Walls, S (Cal) Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, GA) named to Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Class A First Team and Associated Press' First Team [26].
