The Line: Cal favored by 9
Pomeroy Predicts...Cal 80, Oregon St. 69.
Preview Material: Kodiak's preview + Q&A with Building The Dam
Now enters the easiest stretch of Cal's season, as they play three straight games where they are favored by quite a bit to beat their opponent (Oregon State, Oregon, Arizona State), all at Haas Pavilion. Which probably means it'll be tougher than it looks; I expect every game to be in doubt with 39 minutes played.
This is the type of game no one would be surprised to see Cal loses. The Beavers are a desperate team after losing four of their last five. They're a terrible three point shooting team and not so good at defending the long ball, but neither are we. The Beavers are the best pickpockets in the nation with their exasperating 1-3-1 zone, and we still can struggle to hold onto the ball. They can get to the foul line just as easily as the Bears. This could end up ugly if the possessions drag on.
Because they're able to score in transition due to all the steals and gambling defense, there are opportunities to be had if Cal can be patient, move the ball inside, and dump the ball into their big men. Otherwise it'll be a long, long game.
