The Bears are reeling from a four game losing streak, including a puzzling mid-week loss to UC Davis this week. Cal, now in danger of falling out of the top 25, will try to recover when they face the Beavers this weekend. Matt Kawahara of the Daily Cal reports:
At a critical juncture in this 2010 season, the Cal baseball team plays another program this weekend that desperately needs to win a Pac-10 series to keep its NCAA hopes alive.
The Bears are 8-7 in the conference and in a three-way tie for fourth place. Right now their overall record and strength of schedule are contributing to their No. 23 national ranking in the latest Baseball America poll. But losing their last four games has dropped them from their peak at No. 15, which they reached after taking two out of three from Washington two weeks ago.
Oregon State, meanwhile, is in a tailspin. The Beavers (21-14, 4-8 in the Pac-10) have dropped eight of their last nine, fallen out of the top 25 and -- with Oregon and both Arizona schools still ahead on the schedule -- cannot afford to slip any further down the conference ladder.
