Friday Night Lights

  • Archbishop Mitty Monarchs (San Jose, CA) will take on number 1 seed Palo Alto in the CIF Central Section Open Division Playoffs [1]. Kyle Boehm, QB (Cal) will headline Monarchs' offensive attack w/ both his arm and feet.
  • The Woodlands Highlanders (The Woodlands, TX) upset by Klein Oak 14-31 [2][3][4][5][6] in the playoffs. Daniel Lasco, RB (Cal) was limited to 14 yds rushing on 8 carries.
  • Richard RodgersSt. John's Pioneers routed Algonquin 42-20 [7]. On a night when St. John's featured an unstoppable running attack, Richard Rodgers, TE (Cal) caught 1 pass for 37 yds and 1 carry for 35 yds.
  • Northern Guilford Nighthawks (Greensboro, NC) cruised w/ a 43-7 victory over Triton [8][9] in the State 3-AA 1st round playoffs. Maurice Harris, WR (Cal) caught 3 passes for 77 yds and 1 TD.
  • Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets (Lakeside, AZ) squeezed by Fountain Hill 20-14 in the Class 3A Quarterfinals [10]. Jordan Morgan, S (Cal) ran 10 times for 60 yds and the go-ahead TD to lead the Yellow Jackets into the semis. Morgan also completed 3/6 passes for 25 yds w/ an INT on D.
  • Jalen JeffersonSt Bonaventure Seraphs (Ventura, CA) completed its championship run over Royal 58-17 [11]. Jalen Jefferson, ATH (Cal) recovered a fumble for a TD in the victory.
  • Richard RodgersChino Hills Huskies (Chino Hills, CA) defeated Ayala 38-6 [12] to clinch the Sierra Football League title. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB rushed for 77 yds and 1 TD often out of the wildcat formation.
  • The King's Academy Knights (San Jose, CA) is the 8th seed in the CIF Central Section Division IV Playoffs, qualifying as an at-large bid to take on the number 1 seed Carmel [13][14][15]. Amir Carlisle, RB will star in the Knights running attack. He carried 30 times for 176 yds and 3 TDs in the Knights' non-league victory over Jefferson [16].
  • Colt LyerlaHillsboro Spartans (Hillsboro, OR) sent Sunset home packing 35-14 to open the Class 6A 1st Round Playoffs [17][18]. Colt Lyerla, ATH ran for 2 TDs in the 1st quarter before leaving the game w/ a calf injury.
  • Paraclete Spirits (Lancaster, CA) is the 1st seed in the East Valley Division of the CIF Southern Section Playoffs [19]. Lavonte Barnett, DE will the Spirits defense against Desert Hot Spring .

    "We're going to do the same thing we've been doing and prepare the same way we have been so we can go out and take care of business," Paraclete senior defensive end LaVonte Barnett said.

    "We talked (before the season) about how we felt during the Monrovia game and we all agreed we didn't want to go through that again. Just like the year we won, our goal this year is to finish. And not just talk about it, but do it."

  • Vista Panthers (Vista, CA) is the #3 seed in the CIF Division 1 San Diego Section Playoffs [20]. Stefan McClure, CB is the star to watch.
  • Antoine ArnoldChaparral Pumas (Temecula, CA) begins its path to pursue another CIF Inland Division title by winning against Murrieta Valley 27-20 [21][22][23]. Antoine Arnold, WR caught 6 passes for 179 yds and 2 TDs. Arnold had a dangerous run after the catch that set up the game-winning score on the Murrieta Valley 1 yd line [24].

  • Palo Verdes Panthers (Las Vegas, NV) powered over Spring Valley 56-6 in the Sunset Regional quarterfinals [25][26]. Brandon Wright, RB/DB was held out to rest his groin injury.
  • Summit Skyhawks (Fontana, CA) finished 2nd in the Sunkist League with a 30-0 victory over Riverside Norte Vista [27]. Devon Blackmon, ATH caught 2 TD passes for the Skyhawks.
  • Lakes Lancers (Lakewood, WA) is ready to take on Camas in the Class 3A Quarterfinals [28]. Zach Banner, OL {2012} 6-9/310lbs has been paving the way for Lancers' running attack that amassed 3,593 yds and 46 TDs on the year.
  • San Ramon Valley Wolves (Danville, CA) suffered a narrow defeat to Monte Vista 31-38 [29][30]. Zach Kline, QB (Cal) {2012} completed 12/24 passes for 139 yds w/ 2 TDs and 2 INTs.
  • Valley Christian Warriors (San Jose, CA) will take on Serra-San Mateo to open the Central Section Playoffs [31][32]. Byron Marshall, RB {2012} will not be available. Marshall is suspended for for picking up two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in Warriors' 45-28 victory over Sacred Heart [33]. He finished w/ 18 carries for 143 yds and 1 TD [34].

    It's the second time in two seasons Marshall has received a game misconduct in Week 10. "Byron is a passionate young man and player," Valley Christian coach Mike Machado said Saturday. "It's what makes him great but also vulnerable. He's going to need to learn to adjust. It's a tough lesson to learn [35]."

    Junior Highlights [36]

  • St. John Bosco Braves (Bellflower, CA) smashed JSerra Catholic 42-10 [37]. Bryce Treggs, WR {2012} caught 3 passes for 39 yds and 1 TD.
  • Skyline Raiders (Dallas, TX) came back late Garland 28-10 [38][39]. Thomas Johnson, ATH {2012} sparked the Raiders' passing attack, catching 7 passes for 143 yds.
  • Salesian Pride (Richmond, CA) dominated Berean Christian 46-18 to its 9th straight Bay Football League title [40]. Freddie Tagaloa, OT 6-7/318lbs {2012} and his offensive linemen opened up gaps all night for the Pride's running backs.
  • Grant Union Pacers (Sacramento, CA) opened its playoffs by trouncing Wood 54-10 [41][42]. Shaq Thompson, ATH {2012} carried 12 times for 237 yds and 2 TDs. Thompson thrilled the crowd both on offense and defense. Viliami Moala, DT led a stout Grant defense to yield only 12 yds of offense to Wood. Moala also had an INT on the line of scrimmage.
