Friday Night Lights

  • Jason GibsonSerra Cavaliers (Gardena, CA) prevailed over St. Francis 41-14 [1][2][3][4]. George Farmer, WR grabbed 8 passes for 210 yds and 3 TDs. Marqise Lee, ATH had 5 catches for 55 yds. Jason Gibson, OLB joined his teammates to sack the QB once.

    This night, however, belonged to George Farmer.

    It was Farmer's night to shine. The 6-foot-2 senior receiver caught a short pass at the line of scrimmage, stiff-armed one defender and scampered 82 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown on Serra's first play of the second quarter. On Serra's last play from scrimmage in the second quarter, Farmer caught a pass over his left shoulder in the end zone for a 37-yard touchdown that gave the Cavaliers a 27-14 lead going into halftime.

    "The coach told me to be ready tonight, and that's what happened," Farmer said.

    For his efforts, Farmer was named SI Player of the Week [5]. Cal, Miami, USC, Oregon are named favorites.

  • The Woodlands Highlanders (The Woodlands, TX) marched over Oak Ridge 52-13 [7][8][9][10]. Daniel Lasco, RB (Cal) rushed for 108 yds on 13 carries and a TD. He was responsible for a TD thrown from the wildcat formation and caught another TD pass.
    • Eagles Landing Christian Academy Chargers (McDonough, GA) handled Landmark Christian 49-3 [11]. Avery Walls, S ran for a 51 yd TD on offense.
    • Vista Panthers (Vista, CA) bounced Escondido 27-3 [12]. Stefan McClure, CB caught 5 passes on offense for 82 yds and 1 TD.
    • Todd BarrLakewood Lancers (Lakewood, CA) crushed Cabrillo 40-14 [13][14][15][16]. Todd Barr, DT caused a fumble, 5 hurries, and caught a TD on offense. Barr finished the game w/ 4 tackles and 1 sack.
    • Pleasant Valley Vikings (Chico, CA) routed Las Plumas 49-6 [17]. Jordan Rigsbee, OG (Cal) felt the Vikings finall came together as a team. Rigsbee was also honored during halftime for his selection to the US Army All-American Bowl.
    • Archbishop Mitty Monarchs (San Jose, CA) bounced back against St. Ignatius 30-0 [18][19]. Kyle Boehm, QB (Cal) ran for 1 TD and passed for another.
    • The King's Academy Knights (San Jose, CA) could not hold its lead and succumbed to Sacred Heart Prep 20-42 [20][21][22][23]. Amir Carlisle, RB ran 20 times for 3 TDs and 168 yds.
    • St. John Bosco Braves (Bellflower, CA) lost to Mater Dei 20-31 [24][25][26]. Bryce Treggs, WR {2012} had 6 catches for 108 yds. Treggs covered Victor Blackwell on D, intercepting a pass by Max Wittek [27] and scoring his only TD on the following play on offense [28].
    • Richard RodgersSt. John's Pioneers defeated St. John's Prep 24-13 [29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36]. Richard Rodgers, TE (Cal) chipped in 2 sacks on D and caught 7 catches for 92 yds and 1 TD from his TE spot. He also made 2 FGs for the win.
    • Valley Christian Warriors (San Jose, CA) smashed Riordan 35-7 [37][38][39]. Byron Marshall, RB {2012} ran for 3 TDs on 10 carries for 167 yds.
    • San Ramon Valley Wolves (Danville, CA) squeezed out a win against Foothill 12-10 [40]. Zach Kline, QB (Cal) {2012} was blitzed all night, had a TD pass fumbled away, and eventually had to come out of the game [41].

    • Miles ShulerGrant Union Pacers (Sacramento, CA) turned Monterey Trails away 28-22 [43][44]. Shaq Thompson, ATH {2012} ripped off a TD run of 22 yds and another for 60 yds on a reverse w/ a sore ankle. He finished the game w/ 6 carries and 175 yds. James Sample, S did not play after the 1st play of the game w/ a shoulder strain [45].
    • Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets (Lakeside, AZ) are ready to take on rival Show Low Cougars after the recruiting saga of Jordan Morgan, S (Cal) [46][47][48].
    • Aaron GreenJames Madison Mavericks (San Antonio, TX) upset by Churchchill 6-19 [49]. Aaron Green, RB could not find the end zone in this game.
    • Colt LyerlaHillsboro Spartans (Hillsboro, OR) overpowered Newberg 42-6 [50]. Colt Lyerla, ATH rumbled for 2 TDs.
