Mike Montgomery Reprimanded For Pac-10 Officiating Comments

University of California head men’s basketball coach Mike Montgomery has been reprimanded by the Pac-10 Conference for comments he made about the officiating following California’s games at Washington on Thursday, February 10, and at Washington State on Saturday, February 12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. For those wondering about the comments, here they are: "They don't care," Montgomery said about the Huskies. "They foul every time at every position and they aren't going to call it every time. So ultimately you are going to get worn down after a while. They are very physical because they are able to play nine guys throughout the game. They just do not care if they foul they are not going to let you get to the basket.

Mike Montgomery, Coaching Staff Self-Impose Sanctions On Cal Basketball Program

Jeff Goodman reports: "FOXSports.com has learned that California men's basketball coach Mike Montgomery and members of his coaching staff appeared in front of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions Friday in Indianapolis. According to multiple sources, the Golden Bears are being investigated for impermissible phone calls and have already self-imposed sanctions on the program." Here is the official statement on the matter, courtesy of Cal Athletics. "In 2008, as a result of normal review and monitoring procedures, the Cal Athletic Department discovered violations of NCAA by-laws that govern the frequency and number of phone calls that coaches are allowed to place to prospective student-athletes. Cal quickly self-reported the findings to the Pacific-10 Conference and the NCAA, and imposed sanctions on individuals employed by the men’s basketball program. Internal and external investigations have already concluded that the violations were not intentional. Because the NCAA Committee on Infractions is currently considering the final disposition of this case, we will have no further comment until a final decision is rendered."

Falcons Looking At Free Agent DE Mike Montgomery

Formerly of the Green Bay Packers, Mike Montgomery is an able tackler who would probably fill the Chauncey Davis Memorial Role if Davis ends up heading elsewhere. He'd be a solid--and completely unspectacular--signing.

Grud to the Phillies maybe?

his name is mentioned in there. i hope he does sign with them, or anybody for that matter, but it just seems like there is not that many suitors. we could use that draft pick.......

TPA's Top 10 Royals Prospects

Moose is #1 and Rosa is #4... At least according to this set of rankings, there's been some changes since the beginning of the season.

Goldstein on the KC Draft

Kansas City Royals Draft Philosophy: Take the best offensive ceiling player in the draft, and follow that up with high-ceiling pitcher after high-ceiling pitcher. First Pick: Eric Hosmer, 1B, American Heritage HS (FL) (third overall) How High He Could Have Gone: Three is about it. Kansas City can easily argue that he was the third best talent in the draft, but at no time did he seem to be in Tampa or Pittsburgh’s mix. Path To The Big Leagues: Forget about a comparison to Billy Butler--he’s a DH, while Hosmer has the athleticism to become a quality defender at first base, and may even get a shot at the outfield. No matter where he ends up, Hosmer's bat is his ticket to the big leagues, but a Butler-esque rush to the majors is probably not in the cards. Rest of the First Day: 1. Mike Montgomery, LHP, Hart HS (CA): A tall, thin southpaw who already has effective three-pitch mix, and could move up quickly. 2. Johnny Giovatella, 2B, New Orleans: This diminuitive middle infielder has always put up good numbers and has more baseball skills than his size might indicate. 3. Tyler Sample, RHP, Mullen HS (CO): Plenty of people are wondering how he dropped to the third round; 6'7" righties who can touch 95 mph don’t exactly grow on trees. 4. Tim Melville, RHP, Holt HS (MO): Thought to be a mid-first-round talent, the challenge now lies in signing him away from college. 5. John Lamb, LHP, Laguna Hills HS (CA): The southpaw has average stuff, but the polish and feel of a college product. 6. Alex Llanos, OF, PR Baseball Academy (PR): A burner still learning how to play baseball, but he has lots of tools as a starting point.
