"The reason I didn't want to talk about it is because for some people, it sounds like an excuse. That situation normally should make a person work harder or try harder. But I guess I just wasn't quite ready for that -- for her to be going through that. Now that it's over with and she's back 100 percent healthy again, that's the real motivating thing for me right now, to get back and make something happen." Golden Nuggets: Catching Up with Leon Powe

Former Cal forward Leon Powe talks about getting healthy, playing on the Cavs without LeBron next season, returning home to the Bay Area, and more.

Outside linebacker Chris Little dismissed from the Cal football team

Tedford cites a "lack of day-to-day accountability." Puts more question in a position (OLB) rife with questions, but does open up opportunities for the incoming frosh to make their impact felt. (HT MN Bear)

Matt Summers-Gavin and Derrick Hill out for Cal-Oregon State

Tedford officially ruled them out after Thursday's practice. More from Okanes's report: ~Hill will continue to start opposite Syd. ~I have no evidence about this, but I feel Hagan's in the doghouse right now. He might play against OSU, he might not. Nnabuife and Conte are likely to see PT before Hagan. ~Kendricks will probably see more of the field after limited action the last few weeks. This is definitely a move to challenge the Rodgers brothers. ~Also, Gregory offers a partial explanation as to Ezeff's struggles this season. Find out why in the article. Cattouse will continue to get the start over Ezeff. ~No starting kicker has been announced, although Giorgio has the edge.

Jeff Tedford recaps the Cal-USC game and talks about how his team is getting prepared for Cal-UCLA....

Jeff Tedford recaps the Cal-USC game and talks about how his team is getting prepared for Cal-UCLA. (HT, TouchedTheAxe!) Also, player comments from the game, including a special feature on Mychal Kendricks and D.J. Holt! Also, Okanes's Thursday night report indicates first-team still taking majority of the snaps, Tedford's ability to cocoon himself from media/Internet reaction, and that Kevin Riley is looking more focused than ever to improve on his previous week struggles. Also injury updates on Summers-Gavin and Payne.

CGB After-Hours: Sweeney Pushing for #2 spot, Syd'Quan ailing, Summers-Gavin ok

*Beau Sweeney is pushing Brock Mansion for the second position according to Tedford. Heaven forbid Riley were to get injured, but we remember the last time he suited up against the Ducks, he and TJ Ward butted heads. *Syd'Quan Thompson sat out his second practice due to sickness. He'll probably play, but his level of effectiveness will be up in the air. *Jahvid Best looked fine during practice. Matt Summers-Gavin practiced Thursday and is ready to go. Spencer Ladner is not expected to be back until at least the UCLA game.

Late Night Report: Jahvid Best sore but ready for Saturday, Matt-Summers Gavin sick and might not play

*The Jet has been sore and hasn't practiced, but he will practice Thursday and there's little question he will be starting at tailback in Autzen. Syd'Quan and Kendrick Payne both sat out practice but they'll both play. Also, vote for Best in the fan Heisman voting! He's fifth (FIFTH???) behind Jacory Harris, Tebow, McCoy and Eric Berry, whose Vols are 1-2 (What. The. Fuck.). COME ON CAL FANS! *Matt Summers-Gavin has the flu and sat out Wendesday's practice. Be prepared for Mark Boskovich to suit up and take his starting spot if he isn't ready. *Finally, there's a funny wry quote in the article from Tedford about the cleanliness of his athletes. Take that Harbaugh!

Nyan Boateng out 4-6 weeks, Vince D'Amato to handle kickoffs Saturday

This probably means Jeremy Ross will move into third on the depth chart and we're probably seeing more Calvin and Lagemann. He performed admirably in relief for Boateng on Saturday. Good news though is that Skylar Curran only suffered a bruise and will remain the second string. Also some nice notes about what Tedford thought about the extra day in Minneapolis.
