After months of rumors and speculation, Don Bosco defensive tackle Darius Hamilton has finally went public for the Scarlet Knights, which had the bonus effect of firmly securing linebacker Quanzell Lambert into the fold. Steve Longa is back too, meaning that the recruiting effects of Greg Schiano's departure appear limited to Mike Giacone's decommitment to Boston College, Devin Fuller's commitment to UCLA, and Julian Pinnix-Odrick continuing to waiver. (It's doubtful he will pick Syracuse, but JPO will at least flirt for another weekend with Michigan State.) That leaves Rutgers scrambling for a tight end on the eve of Signing Day. They are also making a late run at Virginia CB commit Kye Morgan, a Franklin kid who would have committed to Rutgers in a heartbeat several months back if they would have taken him then. Presumably, the staff would not mind other last-minute defections in their favor as well. Whatever happens with the guys left on the board, Hamilton's commit helps secure an elite recruiting class. Darius ranks right up there with Tom Savage, Anthony Davis, and Savon Huggins as one of the biggest recruits in school history, and serves as a parting gift of sorts from Greg Schiano as his tenure comes to a close. Hamilton may not start as a freshman, as that is very hard to do as a defensive lineman, but Hammer should be a four year contributor along the lines of a Scott Vallone. He projected as a pass-rushing tackle in Greg Schiano's defense, but is currently a tweener between end and tackle.
