We spent a few hours pondering our role in Cal's victory over Northwestern. Like, how much credit do we actually take for it? Do we deserve a game ball? A hard hat? The rope? Maybe just a white Cal helmet?
But little did we know that our role in the game might have been deceptive all along. Northwestern's win over Cal might actually have been an inside job all along!
So bizarre. Josh Rosenblat of Inside NU has the report.
Some of Northwestern's defensive players were given the wrong wristbands during the first half of a 31-24 loss to Cal on Saturday, a source told Inside Northwestern.
On the television broadcast of the game, cameras caught a Northwestern staffer switching out the play cards from a wristband following a long touchdown throw to put the Golden Bears up 24-7.
The long touchdown throw came at the expense of safety Traveon Henry, who appeared to be beaten on the play. As part of a film breakdown of the game's key plays, a writer picked apart that play and had some questions about what seemed like a coverage error.
UPDATE on the #Northwestern wristbands: Source said some defensive players were given different wristbands than others, causing confusion.

The play in question is this gorgeous Trevor Davis touchdown that I feel the need to GIF for some reason.
So someone inside the Northwestern camp was sabotaging Northwestern all along! Did the Wildcats know that it wasn't the football team in front of them that beat them, but some disgruntled graduate assistant who planned several successful demolitions of faulty playcards within their ranks.
Were there others involved that were higher up in the administration who wanted to see the football team lose? How did Northwestern lose? Come with me and begin the #830truth movement to figure out who was at the bottom of these suspicious proceedings.
There are multiple scenarios in play now for who beat Northwestern.
- Bloggers and beat reporters
- Deceptive wristbands
- The Cal football team
(My vote is leaning toward three, but I'm sure you can let me know otherwise in the poll.)
