The season isn't over for the California Golden Bears, and they could very well extend it if they get back to their A-game on Saturday. Cal will host BYU on Senior Day Saturday, and they should have a good chance of registering a solid victory and garnering bowl eligibility to finish 2014.
BYU is not going to be an easy game by any stretch. They're big, tough and physical, and they went into Austin earlier this year and rolled Texas. Now, they're hardly the same team without their star quarterback Taysom Hill, and the Cougars have blasted past the easy part of their schedule to earn bowl eligibility (Savannah State? Really?), but Cal isn't exactly peaking this time of year either. A loss would turn what seemed like a pleasing five-win campaign into a mildly disappointing one for Bear Territory.
Cal was favored by 3.5 points to start the week, and that line has now moved up to 4 to 4.5 points depending on the book you look at. Basically Vegas views this game as a pick'em, meaning that they believe the public isn't quite sure what to make of either team. I'm inclined to agree with that assessment.
Last week's defeat coupled with the Thanksgiving holiday means that it's likely that the student section will probably not be full. Hopefully Cal fans can get to the game and shoulder the load and the noise. Go Bears!
