Tre Watson had a big announcement on Friday night.
Watson will be grad-transferring from the California Golden Bears. Watson played 37 games for Cal with eight starts. He was slated to be the starter in 2017, but a lower-body injury in the second game ended his season prematurely.
With the graduation of Vic Enwere and additional transfers by Zion Echols (post) and Billy McCrary III (post), our depth at running back suddenly became perilously thin. Redshirt-senior Patrick Laird is presumably the starter. The other running backs listed on our roster are redshirt-sophomore Derrick Clark (who had 14 rushes last year) and redshirt-freshman Biaggio Ali Walsh (I believe he redshirted in 2017). Incoming true freshmen in the Class of 2018 listed as running backs are Johnny Adams Jr. and Christopher Brown Jr.—apparently suffixes are great for running backs with “junior” being particularly popular in the Class of 2018. New running backs coach Burl Toler III may have his work cut out for him to get this group coached up in 2018.
Good luck to Tre and thanks for all the hard work!
