Could the California Golden Bears get a new quarterback today by way of transfer? Brandon McIlwain is making his decision about where he will play next.
I am excited for the next step in my career. I will be announcing my future school later today!

McIlwain was regarded as a top 15 QB in the 2016 class. He was ranked as a four-star dual threat quarterback, and recruited by the likes of Wisconsin, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida, Clemson, Auburn and also Cal. McIlwain committed to South Carolina and threw for about 600 yards in eight games last season, with Jake Bentley slowly taking the reins from him by the end of the year.
McIlwain visited Cal a few months ago. He reportedly had the Bears in his top four, along with the Arizona Wildcats, Baylor Bears, and Virginia Cavaliers. Baseball also figures to be a factor in wherever McIlwain goes next—he played both football and baseball in South Carolina.
McIlwain will have to sit out a year if he transferred. So this year’s quarterback battle still figures to be a duel between Ross Bowers and Chase Forrest if Mcilwain chose Cal.
