Cal really isn’t that bad a place to coach! You fire a coach, you land a four-star athlete! That’s just the way things work here!
La Mirada (Ca.) cornerback Elijah Hicks has flipped his commitment from Notre Dame to Cal. Hicks graduated early and will participate in spring camp.
Hicks is ranked 331st overall by the 247Composite (0.8900) as the 37th best cornerback and the 36th best prospect in California. Hicks had offers from everywhere, including Michigan, USC, Oregon, UCLA, Washington, ASU, Arizona, WSU, and academic programs like Northwestern, Harvard and Yale.
At 6-0 and 185 pounds, Hicks will bring Cal even more depth in their strongest defensive unit: Secondary. Hicks joins current Cal commits Je’Quari Godfrey and Tyriq Hardimon at cornerback in this class, and athletes like Jeremiah Hawkins and Michael Onyemaobi also potentially flexible to that position. With Darius Allensworth and Marloshawn Franklin both seniors this season, Cal will have plenty of young corners in place in 2018.
Here are the Hudl highlights for Hicks.
Scout had this scouting report via Ryan Gorcey:
"Hicks is a very talented cover corner with the talent to play for anyone out West," said recruiting analyst Greg Biggins. "He's a playmaker with good ball skills and shows the ability to make plays on either side of the ball, although we like his upside highest in the secondary. Hicks runs well, shows very good instincts and always seems to be around the ball. He also brings a physical edge to the field, is tough against the run and always competes at a high level."
Welcome to Cal Elijah! Go Bears!
