Behind a 12-strikeout game from junior right-hander Ryan Mason, a game-winning squeeze bunt by freshman shortstop Preston Grand Pre and stellar relief pitching by senior right-hander Dylan Nelson, Cal defeated Duke 3-2 and evened its record to 1-1 heading into Sunday's rubber match versus the Blue Devils.
Softball
#23 California softball posted its third consecutive shutout with an 8-0, six-inning victory over UC Davis Saturday morning on Margie Wright Diamond in Fresno, Calif. The Golden Bears have shut out every single opponent they've faced at the Fresno State Kickoff and now have four shutouts through seven games with a perfect 7-0 record.
Men's Tennis
Thirteenth-ranked and 12th-seeded California lost, 4-0, to fifth-ranked and fifth-seeded Illinois, in its ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championship opener on Friday at the Midtown Athletic Club.

Inside the Lair: Maegan Manasse, #1

She couldn't believe she was No. 1.
Maegan Manasse - Cal's sophomore women's tennis player - was walking to class when she got a text on Tuesday congratulating her on her new singles ranking. When she stopped to see what that ranking was...
"I was like, ‘Oh. My. God!'" she laughed. "No one was with me, and I was looking around, and I was freaking out. It was pretty unbelievable at first."
Cal's court-one singles' player had been ranked No. 5 in the previous ITA poll and since then improved her record to 28-3 with two wins at the ITA National Women's Indoor Championship. The Golden Bears reached the semifinal round along the way. The Feb. 10 poll moved Manasse into the top spot.
Women's Gymnastics
The No. 20 California women's gymnastics team delivered fans a sweet surprise on Valentine's Day eve - a perfect 10.0, the highest all-around score in program history and a season-high 196.225 team total. Freshman Toni-Ann Williams' 10.0 vault was the cherry on top of a program-record 39.700 all-around total in Cal's 197.250-196.225 loss to No. 10 Oregon State Friday in Haas Pavilion.
Track and Field
The California Golden Bears track and field sent a split squad to the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and the Husky Classic in Seattle for day one of each of the respective meets. Check out the results here.
Women's Golf
California sits fifth on the leaderboard at the Peg Barnard Invitational after the first 18 holes of the spring season. The Bears shot a 295 (+11) and are 12 strokes shy of the leader after the first round of competition in the tournament held at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course.
Rugby
The Golden Bears racked up 16 tries Saturday in a 100-17 win over Arizona State on Witter Rugby Field. Sione Sina and Harry Adolphus both had hat tricks as California (8-1, 2-0 PAC) took sole possession of first place in the PAC Rugby Conference.
Women's Water Polo
Sophomores Dora Antal and Roser Tarrago combined for 16 goals as the No. 4 Cal women's water polo team swept a pair of matches at the UC Davis Invitational on Saturday.
Swimming and Diving
In a close meet expected between two of the best teams in the country, No. 3 California surged past No. 2 Stanford late to win, 158-142, before a packed Spieker Aquatics Complex.
Women's Basketball
The Pac-12's hottest team takes its eight-game winning streak into Sunday's Senior Game when California hosts USC at Haas Pavilion.
Men's Basketball
Winners of five-straight, California looks to continue its momentum when the Golden Bears head to Salt Lake City, Utah to face No. 11/10 Utah on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. PT at the Huntsman Center.
