Bears got a goal ~5 minutes in from Grace Leer and never looked back as freshman goalie Emily Boyd posted the 4th shutout victory on the young season.
The Straw Hat Band was on hand to cheer on the Bears.
No.18 Cal Men's Soccer improves their season record to 3-1-0 after a 1-0 victory over Gonzaga (1-5-0). Despite the big difference in record, Gonzaga played the Bears tough, and the match was scoreless until late. In the 75th minute, redshirt freshman Jose Carrera-Garcia scored his first collegiate goal to give the Bears the final edge.

It's a Cal Futbol doubleheader in Berkeley today as the men and the women plays in another doubleheader (it was the same arrangement on Friday). First up, the men will try to make it a 2-0 weekend when they host Gonzaga. Bears had an easy time on Friday against Cleveland State. Senior Stefano Bonomo had a hat trick (3 goals) to lead the Bears to a 6-1 victory.
Following the men, the women will look to bounce back from a heartbreaking last minute loss to No.7 Texas Tech, when they look to cement a season sweep of the Santa Clara Broncos (who eliminated the Bears in the NCAA tournament last year). Back in the 2nd match of the season, the Bears defeated Santa Clara 2-1 in the first minute of the first OT (the golden goal came off a penalty conversion). On Friday, the Bears played Texas Tech to a scoreless draw for almost completion, on a corner kick with about 30 seconds left, Texas Tech was able to score the golden goal via a header. Coincidentally, despite all of the Bears' scoring prowess so far, they are not particularly great on set plays (corner kick or free kick) just yet. Freshman goalie Emily Boyd did make some fine plays to keep the Bears in it until the end.
.@CalWomensSoccer loses, 1-0, in double OT to Texas Tech, but Emily Boyd gets Play of the Game honors for this save: http://t.co/7Dfgb7BUQW
