DBD 8/15/2014 - All about that bass

Now that the DC Trojanettes have returned from their summer sojourn in Vermont, there's a lot more pop music playing in the house, minivan, etc. Yesterday we were on the way home from the office (apparently every single one of their friends is out of town this week so they had to chillax in a conference room for a few hours), and were treated to the latest pop sensation "All about that bass" by Meghan Trainor. It seemed less minstrel-ish* than my bete noire (phrasing!) Iggy Azalea - although I was a little disappointed because I was expecting something a bit more like this. Large displacement Australians? Yes please.

However, the "we're all attractive" theme of Ms Trainor's song seemed harmless enough, even if she doesn't seem to do a very good job of lip-synching to her own song in the video and gets out-danced by the fat guy (oh he's so funny, look at him go, no it's totally okay to laugh with him!) Who could dislike that? Oh. Really, nothing is ever good enough.

* You could make the Cugel Exemption Argument that this song is within the realm of reflecting African American influence on popular music, I think, as opposed to invoking my "that's just a foreigner in virtual blackface" rant.

Be nice. You can find the original CGB team at WriteForCalifornia.com.
