Brooke Eubanks is the new Cal Lacrosse Head Coach
Cal Lacrosse now has a new leader and her name is Brooke Eubanks. It has been known since early May that former head Coach Ginger Miles is leaving the team for a position with US Lacrosse. After a change at the top of the Cal Athletics Department, we finally have a new name/face for the Cal Lacrosse team. Brooke Eubanks is coming to Cal after a long stint as a long time assistant coach and offensive coordinator down at The Farm.
This is what she had to say about this job:
I can't imagine a better place, a better university or a better time to be a head coach than right now at Cal. I am thrilled for this opportunity, and I promise not to disappoint.
Brooke Eubanks has had experiences with the Canadian Senior National Team after playing lacrosse at James Madison University (2002-06). She was an assistant at George Mason from 2006-08 and followed then head coach, Amy Bokker, from George Mason to 'Furd.
This represents the 1st hire by interim AD Mike Williams.
"Brooke has demonstrated a commitment to high achievement on the field and in the classroom for more than a decade as both a player and a coach at the collegiate level, and I believe that she will be a wonderful fit for our lacrosse program, our department and our university," said Interim Director of Athletics Mike Williams. "Brooke brings a passion for lacrosse as well as a desire to create a strong team culture and positive atmosphere that should clearly benefit our student-athletes. I am excited to welcome her to Cal."
Coming off a 5-11 record and just 3-6 in MPSF, Cal Lacrosse got plenty of room for improvement. What is perhaps worse is that the Bears lost to 'Furd by a score of 18-7, which may also be seen as a testament for Coach Eubanks' offensive prowess.
Welcome to Berkeley, Coach Eubanks!
Other Coaching News
In some other Cal coaching news, Cal Softball has added a ASA National Softball Hall of Famer in Chuck D'Arcy as an assistant coach. D'Arcy came over to Berkeley from a 4 year stint at ASU (where they won 1 national title in 3 trips to the College World Series). Given how pitching was a huge problem for the Bears last season, in trying to find a replacement for Jolene Henderson, it is good to see measures being taken to improve that for 2015.

As more of a promotion than a coaching "change", Cal Women's Gymnastics has announced that Elisabeth Crandall-Howell is now an associate head coach. With the Golden Bears coming off a season where they saw an enormous jump in rankings and performances, not to mention a historic finish in the Pac-12 Championships, this promotion is very well deserved. As a part of the husband-wife coaching duo at the top of the Cal Women's Gymnastics, the Howells have allowed the squad to rewrite many of the school records in the last couple of seasons.
Mere 21 days until the Cal Fall sports season starts
Cal Women's Soccer will host University of San Francisco Dons on Friday, August 22nd at 5 pm (game is on the Pac-12 Networks) to kick off the Cal Athletics fall season. I am actually particularly excited about this since I will most likely be able to attend this game in person (making it the first time back on campus for a sporting events since a men's basketball game in 2010).
On August 23rd, Cal will have their 2nd annual "Golden Bear Day" from 2-4 pm on the concourse of Memorial Stadium where fans will be able to interact and get autographs from not just the entire Cal Football team but most of the other teams (basically everyone other than Cal Rugby and Field Hockey):
Baseball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Crew, Women's Crew, Football (entire roster), Men’s Gymnastics, Women’s Gymnastics, Women’s Golf, Lacrosse, Sand Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, Softball, Men’s Swimming & Diving, Women’s Swimming & Diving, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis, Track & Field, Volleyball, Men’s Water Polo and Women’s Water Polo
For more info click here. This should be a fun event. I shall see if I have the time to drop by this after attending a wedding on campus on that day.
