This news is not breaking at all. Better late than never! (Nam's profile should be coming up later this week)
How badly does Cal need defensive lineman? The Bears have gotten a late, late signing in the 2014 recruiting class in the form of Lawrenceville (Ga.) Collins Hill & Navy Academy Prep defensive tackle Chris Palmer. Fred Tate recruited Palmer at Cincinnati and kept the connection going to the West Coast and this one looks like a good fit from both an academic standpoint and important team needs.
Here are the video highlights of Palmer.
Palmer attended Navy Academy Prep, a school designed to prep students for the rigor of the actual United States Naval Academy. He originally committed to Navy last winter and signed a letter of intent. However, he went back to prep school for a year, so that letter of intent no longer holds weight. He will be at summer bridge with the rest of the incoming freshman.
With the uncertainty surrounding Jacobi Hunter (who did not participate in spring practice an has to make a decision on whether he wants to play college football going forward or consider the responsibilities of starting a family), Cal needs to make sure they have enough talent in the trenches going forward. Palmer should hopefully provide a necessary need.
