David Davis, Cal football early enrollee

Long Beach junior college defensive tackle David Davis has enrolled early at Cal and could participate in spring practice.

David Davis is one of the many junior college defensive linemen that Sonny Dykes has signed to try and improve things immediately up front. Cal has lost a lot of talent to the draft (three of four of their opening day starters) and attrition. The Bears need instant impact players, and hopefully they’ll get that from their JUCO recruits.

The Long Beach City College defensive end measures at 6’2 and at 295 pounds. Davis held offers from schools like UTEP, Wyoming, Idaho and Middle Tennessee State. Davis isn't ranked by any of the major recruiting services outside of a two-star rating from Scout.

For video highlights, check out Davis' Hudl tape. The best features from the tape will be his agility and ability to move at the snap, using his active hands to try and attack players on offense.

Davis has already a signed mid-year financial aid agreement so he could enroll early at Cal and participate in spring practice.

Head Coach Sonny Dykes
"David is another defensive tackle that plays with great pad level and great effort and is very productive. He is also a hard worker with a great mind that comes from a tremendous football family. He knows what it takes to be great."

Scout
"Davis is an active defender who’s quick on his feet and can lay the hat. What’s really to like about Davis is his intensity and effort. He plays with a good low pad level and does a great job getting into the backfield, as well as getting downfield."
