Justin Cobbs wins Pac-12 player of the week; Cal receives AP votes in Top 25 poll

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

To the shock of precisely no one.

Justin Cobbs has started out as a man on a mission in Pac-12 play. Cobbs has been instrumental in all three of Cal's victories in Pac-12 play, taking over down the stretch to ensure crucial road wins over tough teams like Furd, Oregon and Oregon State. For his efforts he was named Pac-12 Player of the Week.

Cobbs started off strong in Oregon, assisting on many of the buckets of Jordan Matthews (who finished with 32 points) before icing the game. Cobbs finished with a double-double effort, scoring 20 points and dishing out 11 assists while grabbing six rebounds.

Cobbs looked in danger of losing his award after not scoring anything in the first half against Oregon State and the Bears finding themselves in a dangerous hole against the Beavers. But Cobbs rallied with a superb second half performance, scoring all of his 20 points in the final 20 minutes, all of that to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

UPDATE: Cal is another strong week away from potentially entering the Top 25 for the first time in conference play in the Monty era. The Bears finished with 10 AP votes and 9 Coaches Poll votes, moving them to 33rd in both polls.
