After spending all afternoon wandering around Berkeley, hanging out with Twist, and partaking in the joyful tailgating celebration of the return of football season, Old Bear 71 and I settled into our seats in Memorial for the first time in 20 years. It was the culmination of years of discussions, months of plans, and the skipping of my grandmother's bday (we had a party for her on Monday).
We got more excited as kickoff drew near and then, as Cal finally got the ball and drove down the field, talked about how great it was to be there. The drive stalled, D'Amoto lined up for the field goal, and well, you know the rest...(on the off chance you're like me and were so delirious with excitement that you might have blacked out a little bit when Bouza caught the ball...here the link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqBXk_Cos04)
As Bouza crossed the goal line and I started leaping up and down and screaming with sheer joy and hugging Old Bear 71 we turned to each other and said alomst in unison "Whatever happens in the rest of this game, being here for that was TOTALLY WORTH IT."
