DBD 9/16/13 - Unusually Awesome Anecdotes

In yesterday's New York Times Magazine, there was a story by food writer and Berkeley professor* Michael Pollan about how a gag gift from his father ended up inspiring a song by James Taylor. As stories go, it starts out well, and just gets progressively more awesome as it goes:

The summer of 1971 was drawing to a close, and I had a large and growing problem: Kosher, my pet pig. I was 16, and the pig had been a poorly-thought-through joke gift from my father.

I suppose of course if you were Kosher the pig, of a sensitive disposition about animal welfare, or hated James Taylor songs, this wouldn't strike you as particularly good... but there you go.

Today's DBD question then: what's the best anecdote you've read or heard? It doesn't have to be something that happened to you, which is to give everyone else a chance against FiatLux.

*Never let it be said that I'm shy about pandering to my audience...
