It seems to me that in the past under Tedford, prep for the first game of the season began on the Monday before the first game. This year, under Coach Dykes, the team began scout team assignments and NU prep on what, Monday of this week? This may be due in part to Dykes' decision to name a QB after two weeks of camp, and the somewhat clearly demarcated 1s, 2s, etc at this point, allowing him to move forward with next steps and strategies for game time. Now they can just focus on the competition. I raise this point to elicit comments from those who know better than I do the differences between Tedford's and Dykes' game prep right out of the gates. I might be confused about Tedford's game prep coming out of fall camp, so please correct me (I only recall one week of prep). But to the extent there are significant differences, I would be curious to hear how people view those differences, what Dykes' first game prep methods say about him as a coach and what if any meaning we (I) can draw from this. I am salivating at the thought of August 31 and I guess I just want to believe the 2-week prep (seemingly a departure from Tedford's system) will make some quantifiable difference. I hope we can surprise some teams this year.
