"The implementation of this policy will enhance public safety and make it easier for fans to gain access to California Memorial Stadium."
The NFL started this months ago & it didn't sit well with most of my friends who have 49ers season tickets. After it was announced I told my son "I sure hope this isn't adopted by Cal but I bet you it will." After receiving an email from Cal & receiving the same info on a card in the mail my premonition came true. And it sucks!
I attend every home game with my wife & 2 sons. I'm sure there's plenty of you guys out there who've been in this same situation so you know what I'm talking about. There's always extra things needed.I've always brought backpacks to games. Cal plays games anywhere from 1230 to 1930. Backpacks allow us to bring sweatshirts,v jackets & ponchos. I use one for snacks, sunblock, cups, hand sanitizer, napkins, phone chargers, pens & paper. I sometimes bring an extra one if I know I'll be purchasing shirts & other items.
I have always brought in a small cooler that can hold six plastic bottles of water, soda & ice. I'm wondering if this too will be prohibited? A few years ago I had to remove lids on bottles at the gate. That was such a bad idea it was only done for that one season.
I understand that everyone is worried about security this & security that but this is getting ridiculous! Has there been an issue at college football games? I can't imagine anything more than sneaking in booze to games by students. The bags are checked before games. They are checked visually & by hands. What can I really fit into a 14" x 14" x 6" HANDBAG? One sweatshirt fills one bag! For those like my family, putting all of our items in backpacks is convenient when walking from Memorial to bart.
Will I continue to purchase & attend Cal games? Yes, but I will remain mad about this policy!
