DBD 5.30.13 - Dizknee Whirled

I live tweeted the whole thing and some DBDers got in on that action, but there were also things that I didn't say, nor am I going to say in my personal blog post that's going up later today. So here's the real scoop...

The trip was an exercise in In-Law Management and keeping my mouth shut. I really do like my wife's family, but they are different than mine and sometimes things are a little nuts. Everyone goes out of their way to NOT do what they really want to do and no one will ever say what it is they really DO want to do, which drives me insane, as it leads to conversation like: "Oh, I don't care, you go." "No, really, it isn't a big deal, I'll stay." Lather, rinse, repeat, SOMEONE MAKE A DECISION AND DO SOMETHING BEFORE I KILL YOU ALL. Mrs. Kod's services, timelines, and itineraries would have been a welcome addition...

The park itself was fine, but to be honest, Animal Kingdom didn't have all that much to offer. The Everest Roller Coaster was good, but that was about it. The Safari ride was ok, but nothing ground breaking, and other than that, there were a few other silly and small rides but nothing else. It took us 45 minutes to get from place to place so it wasn't like we burned up the pavement or anything, and since the 2 year-old was dictating what we were doing, decisions weren't really coming fast either, so I guess it worked out that it was a small park.

It felt a little to me like the Emperor's New Clothes. Everyone is supposed to have the most magical time ever, so everyone goes there and pretends they have the most magical time ever, but in reality, I'm not convinced everyone is having the most magical time ever. Clearly some people are, and were I 20 years younger, or had kids of my own, I'm sure my perspective would be different (see Kodiak and Band Alum's recent trips for the softer, more parental approach). I'm just not a Disney guy.
