In news that is as unsurprising as it is awesome, Lindsay Gottlieb has been named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year for the 2012-13 season. Gottlieb is a legitimate candidate for various national coach of the year awards, so winning the conference award was likely a forgone conclusion.
Let's take a moment to gape at the level of improvement we've seen on both the team and the individual level. From NIT also-ran to 2nd place in the Pac-12 and NCAA 2nd round, to 5th in the country and first time conference champions.
Meanwhile, here's a list of honors received by Cal players:
The conference doesn't bother to differentiate between first team, second team, and honorable mention, but I'd bet that both Clarendon and Brandon would be considered 1st team all-conference players if they did.
I would have liked to see Talia Caldwell earn all-conference honors (15 players are on the all-conference team) as she is 2nd in the conference in field goal percentage and top 10 in rebounding. But it would be pretty silly complaining seeing as Cal has the most total honors (5) and individual players (4) appearing somewhere on the list. Cal's three all-conference members ties with UCLA for most.
I'd particularly like to recognize Eliza Pierre for her 4th all-defense honor. She has earned a tremendous amount of respect from coaches around the conference despite having limited minutes to make an impact on defense.
