The first two tickets to the Final Four get punched today as the Elite Eight games get underway. It's an All Big East matchup in East Regional final followed by a David vs. Goliath sort of matchup in the West Regional final.
In the first game today, the team that eliminated Cal from the tournament --- Syracuse --- takes on familiar Big East conference foe Marquette. (Ironically, neither team will be in the current Big East next year. Syracuse is off to the ACC and Marquette is part of the breakaway "Catholic 7" that left the Big East to form a new basketball conference, which will be called...wait for it...THE BIG EAST! Got it? Good.) The teams met only once in the regular season, with Marquette getting a three-point win on its home floor. There is a little more on the line today in the rematch.
In the second game, West Region # 2 seed Ohio State will see if its "survive and advance" kind of a run continues. The Buckeyes have won each of their last two games with 3-pointers in the closing seconds. Will this one be similarly close? Can #9 seed Wichita State make a game of it against the B1G Buckeyes?
Here are the particulars:
|1:30 PM||(4) Syracuse vs (3) Marquette at Washington DC||CBS|
|4:05 PM||(9) Wichita State vs (2) Ohio State at Los Angeles||CBS|
This is your open thread. Are you rooting for the team that beat Cal to reach the Final Four?
And a word of advice to Wichita State: if you're in a close game in the closing seconds and Ohio State has the ball, make sure you guard the three-pointer!
Enjoy the games.
