The Pac-12 website published a bunch of "Walton-isms" today, taken from Bill Walton's color commentary during last night's painful 79-69 overtime loss by Cal to Utah in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tournament. This one hurt me.
"Cal has got to get going again and stop thinking the world is against us. Quit feeling sorry for yourself and start playing ball. You had a chance to win and you couldn't turn him (Jarred DuBois) back and you didn't commit a foul. It would have been an easy one to finish off right there, but you let a left-handed guy dribble to his left and hit his own shot. DuBois has been doing that pretty much all night, pretty much on command all season." - Walton on Cal's response to Utah forcing overtime
The going got tough and Cal got going. Cal got going right out of Las Vegas, that is, getting outscored by the Utes to the whopping count of 20-10 in the overtime period. Ouch, ouch, ouch. The Bears are not only bounced from the Pac-12 tournament (sigh...yet another year goes by with Cal not having won the thing) but now have to sweat out Selection Sunday and see if they make the 68-team field for the NCAA Tournament. First four out? Last four in? Safely out of the First Four in Dayton? We wait and see.
In the meantime, someone is going to win the Pac-12 tournament and secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Will it be the Bear-conquering Utah Utes? Or the Oregon Ducks? Or will one of the perennial conference powers UCLA or Arizona be the one to punch the automatic ticket?
