[Editor's note: This was written before Oregon melted down in the mountains. Please continue to discuss who the Pac-12 Coach of the Year should be!]
Will and should Mike Montgomery be the Pac-12 Coach of the Year?
LeonPowe: I'd give it to Altman if Oregon ends up winning the conference [Ed. note: They didn't!] . Monty has a solid argument, but I don't think the media support (especially if the Bay Area guys aren't even voting for him. Like Crabbe, I think he's deserving, but there are other coaches (Cantu?) who also have an argument Man, I'm such a cop-out arguer. I can't even take a stand.
norcalnick: I don't think that Altman is quite as much of a shoo-in as most people will likely feel, but he's going to win and he deserves it. Sure, Oregon's conference schedule was pretty soft. But he still won a conference title (I assume) despite losing perhaps the most important player on his roster for half of conference play. Despite that injury, three of their conference losses came by a combined 7 points. The Ducks have been the best team in the conference, nobody expected it, and they didn't even get every break going their way. Altman it is.
atomsareenough: This one's a little less simple. I'm going to say it should probably go to Altman. If he wins the conference, relative to expectations, he deserves it. I think he'll probably get it, too. I don't think Monty will, at least not anymore. If we'd won last night, he had a shot.
LEastCoastBears: Probably not. Dana Altman should still be the frontrunner given how Oregon exceeded expectation. That obviously does not mean that he is better than Monty, but Monty's past success would work against him in this voting. The whole pushing fiasco may also have hurt Monty's chance for the Coach of the Year honor.
