Cal football will be undergoing many new changes under the new coaching regime. One of the big ones hinted at was new uniforms.
Obviously many of us probably don't have opinions on uniforms other than "They look sick" or "They are objectionable" or "Burn them on sight". So we can't really have any idea of what to think until we end up seeing the final product.
But we do have a good idea of what the general design will be like. On a radio show from a month or so back that I have long since lost interest in finding a link to, Dykes reiterated what the final design could end up looking like.
- It will be classical instead of new and edgy, so we could see a retro-style uniform for the Bears or something that isn't too flashy compared to the Oregons of the world.
- It will have two standard designs, one for road, and one for home. No variations, no alternates, no new helmets, no new changes.
- Cal would have one classical uniform for home games (probably blue tops and gold pants or blue tops and blue pants) and one jersey and several pants colors for road games (white tops with potential variations on pants).
This is what I hear from the Internets. I believe it because I can't believe anyone would be disturbing enough to make up FAKE Cal football uniform rumors.
So there will be little variation, which is a return to form to old Cal football ways. The Bears mixed and matched a lot in the final years, and there were many teeth gnashed because of that. On the other hand, the uniforms won't be used as much as a selling point, but it's not like Oregon has been landing top five recruiting classes. Alabama's uniforms are the color of aging algae, and they sign number one classes all the time. So that doesn't seem like a big deal.
It's more a matter of taste and preference. What are you looking out for? What do you want to see with the new unis?
What do you think of Cal football returning to a more standard approach of uniform design? Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts?
@kathycastro Later this spring sometime. The exact date is TBD, our AD is working hard to make it a great unveil!

@davidwong76 The key is to find a happy median. Something the players like, but classy enough that alumni/boosters/fans can love it too
