DBD 2.08.13 Happy Year of the Snake!

Hey there CGBers!

In a couple of days it'll be February 10, 2013 - and for those cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year (Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Mongolian, Tibetean) it will mean a transition from the year of the dragon into the Year of the Snake.

In China, it means a week off of work. Because of poor planning and unreliable friends, I am not doing my usual snowboarding in Japan trip and am instead stuck here in snowy Shanghai. Where, aside from the constant fireworks (and I mean constant) - it'll be really quiet since people will be with their families.

For a large proportion of the population (200 million!!!) - Spring Festival/CNY is the only chance they get to go home. So the train and bus stations have looked seriously chaotic over the previous two weeks.

But it's not all travel chaos. Chinese New Year also means gathering with one's family, buying new clothes (blargh - they should be red since its the color of Luck - I will be wearing blue since it's the color of Rodgers), buying new shoes, cleaning the house, clearing your debts and eating.

Since my family isn't very Chinese traditionally and they're not even here - I'm going to find the other remaining expats and do some eating and possibly foot massage and pirate DVD watching.

Be nice. You can find the original CGB team at WriteForCalifornia.com.
