Allen Crabbe is our most important player this year. During the conference season he's averaged 38.2 minutes per game because we rarely can afford to take him out.
He leads the conference in points per game even though he's the primary defensive focus for every team we face. He's also becoming a leader on defense, and is now 5th in steals and 13th in defensive rebounds (top bear in both categories) in conference games.
He is a team player with exceptional individual skills and he's been learning when he needs to score and when he needs to look for a teammate in a better scoring position. He's also learning to contribute in other ways when his shot isn't falling or the defense isn't giving him open looks. He's been tasked with shutting down opposing point guards late in the game and with taking the important top spot when we use our zone defense.
He's won Pac-12 Player of the Week both of the last two weeks, and deserved to win it two times earlier this season (in my humble opinion). He's a heavy favorite to win conference Player of the Year honors.
Crabbe will decide after the season is over whether he wants to enter the NBA draft early or come back for his senior year to play with his close friends at Cal and try to improve his skills and his eventual draft position.
