Trying to downgrade football and basketball

So I am having a hard time with accepting that the school I love more then life is trying to push sports to the back burner after it spent so much money improving facilities. While I completely understand the educational aspect of being the best public institution in the country if not the world, ( I couldn't get in with my grades 18 years ago even though I was pretty good at Water Polo, and it was my dream to go to Cal). We must also understand that after spending millions on new facilities approved by chancellors and boards not just Sandy Barbour. We need to put bodies in the seats! And although a super smart kid loses an opportunity to go to the best school, an athlete gets a chance to become better in life and improve our opportunity to pay bills. It is unfair some may suggest but so is life at times in several aspects. It's called politics. I dislike ranting on Facebook and here I am voicing an opinion, but I am a diehard Cal fan! I follow the smallest of Cal Sports in the paper and root for every one of them! Letting all this public questioning of whether big sports and academics mean anything to our university is unfair. It always has! Face it big time football and basketball has gotten out of hand financially. So either we compete or we just fold up tent and become a school without big time sports for us to root on, our kids to desire to play at, and the school financially to struggle paying off bills. I am not a tent folder because of my upbringing, and will continue to watch every game, match, or meet I can make it to till I die or can't go so I am sure u know my opinion. We cal fans need to stand up and make it known that we love this institution for it academics and are very proud but we must accept that not every kid can be super smart or be an athlete. That's what makes our country so well rounded and the best ever. And also adds diversity to the most diverse university ever. " Roll on you Bears"
