Every time I read about Cal today I can't help but sigh. Yes I could easily do a good, bad, and ugly for this game, but we all watched the game and no one wants to relive it. So first of all I want to address the Dykes haters. Everyone who is calling for Dykes' head...just stop. As LABear so wisely brought to our attention, Cal is the most depleted team in the FBS. And don't forget that to start the season Cal was the #124 out of 125 teams in terms of experience. So just stop. I think some of us came into this year with unrealistic expectations. Did you honestly think we were going to go to the fricken rose bowl??? Yes this was probably a 6 or 7 win team without the injuries but guess what? You can't change what has happened. We all hoped this wouldn't happen but part of us knew it would. So as of right now Cal is 1-5 and as I look at the schedule I can see maybe 2 remaining games that we can win. You never know in college football but realistically we are looking at a 2-10 or another 3-9 season. So with a terrible record, very few remaining winnable games, and ridiculous amounts of injuries where does Cal go from here?
Cal just has to keep fighting. That is something that we have seen out of the Bears this year: They fight. After going down 21-0 in the first 6 minutes of the Ohio State game, the easily could have thrown in the towel and let OSU roll over them and win by some ungodly amount. But they didn't, they picked themselves up fought back and pulled within 7. Yeah they ended up losing but they won the last 54 minutes by 3. Point being they fought back. Last night's game. After getting embarrassed in the first half the defense picked themselves up and fought back in the second half. Only allowing thirteen points and did their best to keep the game close when the offense wasn't helping them. The point is that this year's team is showing a lot more fight than last years team. They aren't just going out and rolling over when it is clear they are overmatched.
So here is the reality. This team is probably not gonna win many more games. But it is our job as fans to stand behind the team and do our best to make a difference. It's our job to go to the games and give them something to play for. They are the ones out there representing the greatest university. It's the least we can do to show a little support for the team. Hey, every Cal fan knows there is no place better than Memorial Stadium on a Saturday night, so buy a ticket to the game on Saturday. Take your family and have fun. Scream your head off until the clock reads 00:00. I know I will.
