There are plenty of Cal football alumni to watch in this weekend's games. On Saturday, Marvin Jones (Bengals) and Justin Forsett (Texans) will be representing in the early game while Aaron Rodgers and Jeremy Ross of the Packers will be in action in the nightcap. (Desmond Bishop is also employed by the Packers, but is on injured reserve.) The Vikings have no Cal players on their roster and they have former Stanford running back Toby Gerhart. So you're pretty much rooting for the Packers, amirite?
On Sunday, there are no Cal alumni on the field for the early game (Colts at Ravens). But in the late game, there are plenty of Bears to watch. Marshawn Lynch and Brandon Mebane are on the field for the Seahawks while Lorenzo Alexander and Nick Sundberg are in uniform for the Redskins. (Another Seahawk employee, former Cal tight end Cameron Morrah, is on injured reserve.)
BTW, there was some Cal-relevant NFL news unrelated to the playoffs this weekend: the Carolina Panthers retained former Cal linebacker Ron Rivera as head coach. Rivera was on the hot seat after a 3-9 start, but the Panthers finished strong, winning four in a row to finish 7-9, a one game improvement over 2011.
This is your open thread for wild card weekend. Enjoy the games.
