Fountain Valley offensive lineman J.D. Hinnant commits to the California Golden Bears.
Cal lands another much-needed offensive line commit. Fountain Valley offensive tackle J.D. Hinnant pledged to the Golden Bears this morning over his other finalists of Oregon and Duke ($).
Hinnant will be one of those players you have to root for. Hinnant was one of the highest-ranked offensive linemen on the board before a horrific accident fractured his pelvis and tailbone and caused a head contusion. He avoided spinal, neck and internal injuries and appears to be on the road to a full recovery.
It is no secret that the cupboard is bare at offensive line for Cal – the unit ranked among the worst in the country last season, and will have to replace three starters up front in 2013. Since arriving, Sonny Dykes has turned much of his attention to rebuilding up front.
Here are the rankings for Hinnant:
- Rivals: 48th best offensive tackle, 66th best recruit in California
- 247: 91st best offensive tackle, 133rd best recruit in California
- ESPN: 41st best offensive guard, 78th best recruit in California
- Scout: 42nd best offensive tackle
Hinnant had offers from Oregon, Nebraska, Arizona, Colorado, Duke, Harvard, Nevada, Oregon State, San Diego State, and Washington State. Hinnant also seems well equipped to handle the academic rigors of Berkeley, sporting a reported 3.75 GPA and 1860 SAT score.
The 6’3”, 267 pound Hinnant joins Cameron Hunt and Erik Bunte among current commits to the Bears. With Hinnant in the fold, the Bears now have 3 offensive line commits for 2013. What do you think of this addition? Who would you like to see added to Hinnant and company – coughCochrancough – and how many linemen do you think the Bears should ultimately end up with? Sound off below, readers.
Welcome to Cal, J.D. GO BEARS!
