Though Cal had an extra scholarship slot after A.J. Richardson's decommitment last night, it appears that that spot will no be vacant for too long, as the Bears managed to snag a verbal from Tustin (Tustin, Calif.) linebacker Edward Tandy.
Here are Tandy's rankings across the 4 major recruiting services:
Rivals: 3 star, unranked
ESPN: 3 star (76), 87th ranked LB, 104th ranked in CA
247Sports: unranked
Scout: 3 star, 74th ranked LB
A link to his highlight tape can be found here.
If this video is any indication, the Bears will be getting a very versatile prospect. Pass rushing? Check - the reel opens up with him blitzing through the A gap untouched for a sack. Pursuit? Check - the second play shows him running down an off-tackle run from the opposite side. Instinct? Check - Tandy demonstrates that in the run and pass game, reacting quickly to balls thrown near him and attacking nearby backs. He even lines up to cover players on the outside, snagging more than a handful of interceptions.
Welcome, Edward!
Tandy becomes the third linebacker in the 2013 class, joining Victor Egu and Chad Whitener.
Even with all the recent movement surrounding the '13 class - decommitments from Cavil, Akins, Richardson, to say nothing of the slew of new recruits Sonny Dykes has reeled in - Cal still only has 22 new Bears joining the team next season. How many would you like to see the team end up with, and with National Signing Day only a few weeks off, which names would you like to see take their talents to Berkeley? What do you think of Tandy? Sound off below.
