Yes they will. I think.
I was driving home from LA Saturday afternoon, trying to figure out how Cal could get to 6 wins and make a bowl game. Then I watched UCLA and ASU games and looked at the other Pac-12 scores. I know a lot can and will happen over the next 10-11 weeks, but based on how my Bears and our opponents played the first two weeks:
OSU. Loss. We will not beat the Buckeyes in Columbus. Forget about it. Won't happen.
U$C. Loss. See above ... times 10.
ASU. Loss. Okay, Illinois is not great. Neither is Nevada. ASU looked strong and fast and their QB is better than ours.
UCLA. Loss. Nebraska is good. UCLA is better. UCLA looks strong, fast and has a better freshman QB than our senior.
Wassu. Win. We can do this one.
$tanfurd. Loss. Sorry Bears fans, I hope I'm wrong and I know it's the Big Game and anything can happen, even in October, but $tanfurd is a better team.
Utah. Win. It's a bit of a reach on the road at altitude, but without Jordan Wynn, I think we can win this one.
Washington. Loss. Forget about the LSU debacle. Baton Rogue is a very hard place to play, especially when the Tigers are really good. Washington is just a bit better than us.
Oregon. Loss. 'Nuff said.
Oregon State. Loss. We are not good in Corvallis. Based on their win over Wisconsin, the Beavs are as bad as predicted.
So that adds up to 3-9. I could see a win against $tanfurd or Washington or Oregon State, but I just can't see winning all three. It won't quite be 2001, but there will be no bowl game.
How we turn it around from there is anybody's guess.
