BERKELEY, CA - SEPTEMBER 01: Zach Maynard #15 of the University of California drops back to pass against the University of Nevada in the fourth quarter of an NCAA football game between the Nevada Wolf Pack and California Golden Bears at California Memorial Stadium on September 1, 2012 in Berkeley, California. Avinash: White helmets at home. Whose idea was it to play in those things on Opening Day? Everytime we bring out those stormtrooper get-ups we predictably end up getting blasted in the face. The moment I walked up into the stadium and glimpsed those things I instantly recoiled, like Order 66 was about to be executed on all of us. And it kind of was.

I'm of the opinion that we should never play in them again, except maybe against Oregon in Eugene since we'll still look like a normal football team. What say you?

Yellow Fever: Those things didn't kill me, but they definitely weren't helping. Not as bad as Rutgers' all-black uniforms, for instance.

TwistNHook: I think that the white helmets look cool. We are 0-3 in them, so the more superstitious amongst us might make some negative correlations there. I doubt that the uniform dictates how the team plays. So, let's use them some more.

But white blue white seemed weird. It made the blue in the middle seem out of place. So, let's use all blue and white helmets or do storm troopers on the road.

Kodiak: I don't care about what our helmets and uniforms look like. I care that our team looks unprepared and sloppy.

Berkelium97: The problem was not the helmets; it was what was going on inside those helmets.

Tedford is superstitious, isn't he? I don't think we'll ever see those helmets again.

unclesam22: I dislike the white helmets now, but if the players like them then whatever. They didn't make Cal look nearly as bad as Nevada did.

atomsareenough: I've never been a fan of the white helmets, and would be happy if we never saw them again, but I've long thought that if we are going to use them, we should use them with blue jerseys and white pants. As a combo, I thought it looked pretty sharp, for what it's worth. They certainly aren't the reason we lost. But yeah, get rid of 'em, fine with me.

OhioBear: I like the white helmets -- with the right uniform combination. I thought they would look sharp with a white pants and blue jersey ensemble, but I was wrong. It ended up looking kind of odd (though not as odd as the combination for the Ucla game last year). For purely reasons of football fashion, I think we should jettison the white helmets permanently except for an occasional all white stormtrooper look on the road. I thought THAT looked cool.
For the grand reopening of Memorial, we should have gone with a traditional look -- blue jerseys, blue helmets, gold pants.
