On September 9, I posted,
Yes they will. I think.
Several Cal fans pointed out (correctly) that making predictions 2 games into the season is a bit dicey. Too much can change. (agreed) Now we are 5 games in, so let's see. I'm 3 for 3 (loss, loss, loss) but things have definitely changed.
UCLA. Loss. I fell worse about this one than before.
Wassu. Loss. Wassu is probably not the better team, but it's in the Paloose and Mike Leach will out coach Tedford (again). The Cougs will continue to improve and I don't see where we will start (to improve).
$tanfurd. Loss. $tanfurd is a better team.
Utah. Win. It's a bit of a reach on the road at altitude, but without Jordan Wynn, I think we can win this one. It may depend if Cal has quit by then.
Washington. Loss. Washington is better than us. Enough to win on the road.
Oregon. Loss. 'Nuff said.
Oregon State. Loss. The Beavs are good on defense. More than good enough to shut down Maynard and company.
So that adds up to 2-10. I could see a win against Washington State, but 3-9 is about as good as it's going to get. It won't quite be 2001, but there will be no bowl game.
From what I'm reading on this blog. Cal fans seem to be reaching a consensus on how we turn it around. The only questions are (a) can we afford to buy Tedford out and (b) what coaches will be available. There were some good ones last season, too bad we missed them and wasted a year. [BTW, before you label me a Tedford-hater ... like everyone else, I REALLY want Tedford to wake up one day and be the Tedford of 2002-2007, but I don't know if he ever will and I don't see him getting the chance.]
