We're gonna switch things up a bit with in-season recruiting coverage. Since news has been slow, there hasn't been a major need for the Golden Recruiting Wire posts in addition to our weekly Recruiting Fanposts. As a result, we're gonna buff up the Discussion posts a bit going forward, and gear them more towards what's happening with our current commits and main targets within the season.
We'll be posting them up late Thursday/early Friday so that we can discuss performances from the Friday night games and any news that unfolds during the following week.
In that vein, here is a quick look at the games that our commits have ahead of them this weekend. Go get em, future Bears!
QB commit Jared Goff and his 3-1 Marin Catholic squad will Host San Marin (1-3) on Saturday afternoon. San Marin isn't a great team and should not pose much of a challenge to Goff and the Wildcats, but they have a pretty good 2014 quarterback prospect in Manny Wilkins. He's one to watch for.
WR commit AJ Richardson and 3-0 Narbonne will be facing Serra (4-0) on the road Friday night. This will be a big-time game between two SoCal powerhouse programs that are loaded with talent. Expect a couple members of the Cal coaching staff to be in attendance both to watch AJ show out and also get a live look at a few 2014 stud defenders on the Serra squad.
CB commit Darius Allensworth and his 3-1 Heritage Patriots will be hosting Rialto (1-2) on Friday night. I expect Heritage to win this one and Darius to do his thing, but Rialto DT and UCLA commit Kenneth Clark is a very fine player and a guy I would have loved to see at Cal.
TE commit Ray Hudson and the 2-1 Foothill Falcons come off their bye week to host Monte Vista (3-0) in a EBAL matchup. This will be a tough game for Foothill as Monte Vista is a very good team.
OL commit Cameron Hunt and his 2-1 Centennial squad will head out on the road to take one Carson (0-4). Centennial should clobber them, and this could be another game that at least one al coach attends. In addition to Cam, Centennial DE Garrett hughes will be getting a look from the staff.
LB commit Chad Whitener and the 2-1 Mansfield Tigers will travel to South Grand Prairie (1-2). After a rough opening loss to Bowie, it's looking like Chad and Mansfield are hitting their stride.
CB commit Trey Cheek and 2-1 Archer will host Parkview (2-1). this is interesting because Shon akins and Norcross shut parkview out 20-0 a couple weeks agao. Can Trey and the Archer defense do the same?
CB commit Shon Akins and undefeated Norcross (3-0) host Duluth (1-2) on Friday night. Expect the Norcross Blue Devils to roll. They're a talented bunch.
LB commit Takkarist McKinley and Kennedy-Richmond (0-3) travel to take on Galileo (1-1-1) on Friday. Kennedy is still seeking their first win of the season. let's hope they can pull it off on the road. If they do, you know Takk will be a big reason why.
Kicker commit Matt Anderson and San Ramon Valley (0-3) head south, then east, to take on Livermore (2-1), the school that gave us Damariay Drew. SRV has had a tough start to their season, so let's hope that the bye last week will help get them back on track.
I'll be tweeting updates on how our commits did on Saturday morning, and then likely post updates in the comments as well.
Since the staff will be in LA ahead of the game with SC on Saturday, some coaches will also attend the the Westlake vs. Crespi game to see Cal targets like Celt safety duo Brandon Arnold and Tyler Foreman, under the radar Crespi DE Ray Davison, and Westlake stud CB Dashon Hunt. That should be a really good game.
Drop your thoughts in the comments. Go Bears...present and future!
