(EDITOR'S NOTE: TheBuckeyeBear originally posted this travel guide on July 16, 2012. TBB has kindly edited it to be more current, updating the post with scheduled events during the weekend. We repost it today as edited for the benefit of those traveling to Ohio for the game.)
It's the Pac/Big-# meetup you've all been waiting for! The Golden Bears will be coming to the Heart of it All on Saturday, September 15, 2012, AND YOU'RE ALL INVITED! Here's the planning thread, so talk about everything from the CGB charter flight to Amish food here. Oh yeah, and FOOTBALL!
There are a limited number of direct flights to Port Columbus International Airport (CMH), so plan to spend some time traveling. Other Ohio airports are in Cleveland (CLE) 2 hours away, Cincinnati (CVG) 1.5 hours away in Kentucky, and Dayton (DAY) 1.5 hours away. CMH is about 20 minutes away from the OSU campus/downtown, and is small and easily navigated.
To find accommodations that are within walking distance of the Shoe, search in the OSU and Short North areas. Other areas of interest in Columbus that are a bit farther away include downtown (State House and other government offices; fun fact: the county Republican HQ is at the corner of High & Gay), the Arena District (home to the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Columbus Clippers), and German Village (National Register of Historic Places). Traffic on gameday will be crazy, so if you stay farther away, bring cash for the bus.
The best way to leave the airport is by car. Very few, if any, Columbus cabs accept credit card, so have cash ready. Hotels may have shuttles, but the city buses are not very convenient for airport access. City buses and campus buses ARE useful on gameday:

Ohio Stadium, aka The Horseshoe
Be prepared to find a lot of red at the Shoe. First built in 1922 and renovated in 2001, the Shoe seats over 100,000. It's gonna be loud! Some time-honored traditions are described here, but I'd like to highlight "dotting the i" for our band bears: When the band spells out script Ohio, it's a senior sousaphone player's honor to "dot the i" to complete the spelling.
2 hours before kickoff is Skull Session where TBDBITL (the best damn band in the land) warms up. It’s at St. John’s Arena which is just north of Ohio Stadium. Better to show up 2.5 hours before kickoff because seats fill fast. The team walks through too and Urban Meyer and a senior says something to the crowd. It’s a good thing to experience.
